Peter D, Male, CA

I am the founder of Social Actions and the author of a blog called About Micro-Philanthropy.

Social Actions helps individuals and organizations use social media to plan, implement, and support peer-to-peer social change campaigns so that grassroots solutions to local and global problems can flourish.

About Micro-Philanthropy covers the peer-to-peer social change movement. The blog features the individuals, organizations, and thought-leaders that are using social media to increase small-scale giving and create social change.

I have presented webinars for the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) on the subject of person-to-person fundraising, wired fundraising, and micro-philanthropy. I have also written and published articles on Personal Democracy Forum, TechSoup, NetSquared, and NTEN about starting social actions and selecting the right combination of technology platforms.

The underlying assumption of my work is that person-to-person social actions are an excellent incubator for broad social change.

I travel frequently but maintain my home base and office in Montreal, Quebec.

Re: Advice From Last Year's Featued Projects

May 18, 2008 by peterdeitz

Hi all, Here are a few more suggestions from Heather Cronk (who I believe attended last year's conference as a project champion)

- It's important to campaign at the conference
- Talking with as many people briefly is better than focusing on one or two deep conversations
- Be strategic about how you spend your time
- No need to distribute print material
- Participate in the forums before and during the conference
- Be visible on the NetSquared website before and during the conference
- Demonstrating demand / need for your mashup is important
- Prove to folks that people want to work with your project
- Post video and text testimonies in support of your mashup
- Having a sustainability model is also very important
